Cascade Sports Car Club's Road Rally program (aka Cascade Geargrinders) offers the 59th anniversary running of the Mountains to the Sea Rally. Mountains to the Sea is an easy to follow scenic drive on paved less traveled roads starting in Portland and ending in Seaside, Oregon.
This all-day time-speed-distance road rally includes GPS-timed checkpoints and time of day restarts. Most route instructions are accompanied by official mileage. Checkpoints are identified in the route instructions.
Entry fee:
$60 per car for CSCC members (either driver or navigator is a Cascade member)
$85 per car for non-members
Schedule: Sept. 21
First car out: 10:01 am
First car arrives at finish (approx.): 5:00 pm
Results announced and awards presented soon after all cars finish
This event is open to everyone - club members and non-members, all types of vehicles. Entry requires a street-legal vehicle, a licensed and insured driver, a navigator, and a smart device (e.g., cell phone or tablet) running the Competitor Richta GPS Checkpoints app (app is free).

Event requirements
This event is conducted in accordance with Cascade Sports Car Club’s 2024 Mountains to the Sea General Information and Road Rally Rules.
Online registration is required. Day-of-event on-site registration is not available.
All communication about the rally occurs via email. Watch for emails and respond promptly.
After completing online registration by the Sept. 18 midnight deadline, you will receive instructions to complete the virtual check-in on Thursday the 19th. You’ll need to register your assigned car number in the Competitor Richta app, e-sign the required event insurance waivers, and confirm your team’s registration information.
Each entry team must carry a smart device (e.g., cell phone or tablet) running the most current version of the Competitor Richta GPS Checkpoints app. Instructions for downloading and using the Richta app will be provided as part of check-in.
All occupants of the vehicle registered for this event - driver, navigator, passengers - must e-sign the required event insurance waiver. The link to e-sign the waiver will be provided as part of check-in. For occupants under age 18, a parent or legal guardian must e-sign “on behalf of a minor”.
After you’ve completed these check-in steps, you’ll receive the route instructions on Friday. You will need to print them. Friday evening at 7 pm there will be a Zoom Q&A meeting. Take advantage of the Zoom meeting to ask questions.
On Saturday morning, leave the start by your assigned out time. Follow the route instructions to the end. Results will be announced and awards presented soon after all teams have completed the course.
